It is the name of the frame drum once played in the Canavese zone (north west Italy). The Center was born in 1999 with the purpose to create a stable point of reference for the traditions, in particular the musical ones, of the Canavese and the Piedmont. Pier Franco Zerbini, founder and coordinator, have developed a more than decennial experience in this field with the target of giving always greater dignity and cultural dimension to local tradition, still too much often presented as something of suitable only to fairy or country situations, to a folclore that has lost its true roots towards standardized as well as foreign models. From the year 2000 he is supported by Stefania Bongioanni, singer and composer, teacher of singinig specialized in celtic singing: they founded in that year the group Tirnamoe, highly appreciated for its blend of tradition and innovation, modern and traditional instruments. They produced a CD in 2002, The Land of the Young and the group was called "Revelation Group for 2002" by the famous italian site "Traditional Arranged", read the review here. The Center is taking care to collect material like music sheets of the beginning of '800, recordings, photographies and audiovisual aids, ancients instruments and all what can and must be saved and be valued in our region. It offers consulences on all that regards teaching popular music, instruments and dance, lessons for schools, conferences about instruments and singing, teacher updating workshops, exhibitions of traditional music and music of celtic inspiration, ancient music, christmas music, course and workshops of approach and improvement to instruments like diatonic accordion, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipe and singing. |
